Default Dealer Changed Maintenance Interval from Flexible to Severe, Why?

I serviced my CX-9 2019 the past Tuesday. I noticed today the Service Interval was changed from Flexible (every 7K miles) to Severe (every 5K miles). Given that my VIN is in the TB Group that was just granted a 10YR/120MI limited warranty extension is this Mazda wanting to keep tabs on the developing issues with these affected CX-9s?

Ok well this is not a bad thing. I would recommend to follow the updated service change to the letter

So you are not aware of any Mazda directive to do such?

Ok so first of all if you or anyone is going to us a TSB to support a thread topic, conversation or what you think it does keep in mind they are not really worded or designed for the general public. They are now available because of some regulations changes that the consumers are allowed access to them but nevertheless look how the dis claimer is on every page. That is not how they use to be. Now for you!!!! They are for a Mazda service technician or a certified Warraty Automotive Technician.

generally speaking, how it work!
You go to a dealership with a concern. The service manager or advisor write a work order gets you VIN and inputs in the computer. Most dealership program will automatically access or generate TSBs, recalls and or other customer related to their VIN Mazda.

Your Mazda goes to the service shop.
A Depending on the service or complaint a mechanic or Technician or a factory Trained Automotive Technician will look into the complaint concern as well as review and all related TSBs current and past and other mentioned items.
Then and only after it is determined that the Mazda fits the TSB in this example the Service Technician will submit that back to the service advisor. that service advisor would then contact MAZDA Corp to get the approval of the WARRANTY Service . After that approval your Mazda will then go back to the service shop and an assign Technician(s) will look and review all the TSB updates and information having to do with the service task assigned. The service writer will then forward to the parts département the noted TSB parts replacement requisition.

there are many more steps but that is the basic. If need be I can continue but this pretty much supports why TSB are meant for the Dealerships and not for the public, because they don't read them completely nor truly understand how they work!

To be clear I am one of the few in the US that are approved with MAZDA Corp to do most service warranty work with few exceptions. Although we no longer do them in the shop because Mazda does not pay shop normal hourly rates so the owner decided it is not worth the trouble anymore. And yes this reimbursement also applies to dealerships at times which is why many owners often beetch when they think something should be warrantied even if that warranty for the part expired. dealerships do not get compensated in most cases so for them it is a loss.
A dealership is after all an independent business just like many retail stores and small auto service shops. LOL

No directive. More money for the dealer and better for your engine. I change my CX-5s at 5000 every time even though my usage doesn't fit Mazda's criteria for "severe service".

Well from a standpoint of a business it is... but your service is what I also do myself and recommend keeping the engine lubricants doing their best job and help reduce problems caused from longer oil service intervals!
