Center (3rd) Brake Light 2012 Mazda CX 9
 

Center brake light (3rd brake light) on my 2012 Mazda CX 9 will not light. (1) Possible causes? (2) To hotwire another light - where do I find the hot wire in the bundle to put in a new (and separate) light? (Wire Color) I'm not paying $120 U.S. for a new LED light. Many thanks.

LED light don't go out that fast. Your issue is wiring related. Open the back up and follow the wires until you found the part that is striped. It usually done by Rats. Those critters like to chew wires.

Got that right - LOL! Pesky critters. Turned out it was a faulty or insufficient ground from the lights to the chasis. My quick fix was to grab the return wire with an alligator clamp - likely a ground wire coming out of the lights - and attach it to the tail gate with the other alligator clamp end. Put the plastic back on over it - and it worked - passed state inspection. I should likley more permanently attach it?!

Where is the grind wire from the lights.

Just replaced the brake light & still not working

So your problem is your own and again I suggest you start your own thread.
On forums normally you don't start asking question in an old thread about your own problems.

But to answer you on now 2 threads you are responding and posting in...

The proper test next should be test the connector. To do that you will need a simple Volt or volt/ohm meter.

I've been on a few forums & consensus is never start a new thread if you are having the same issue to keep things organized, but noted for this forum.

I'll have to get a multimeter to test connection I guess.

You can always do what you want? Its just a little common sense about threads and also polite when its not your thread!
Most forums are the same way and a good moderator would remove your post and create a thread for you.
Your first question was to ask where the ground wire is? I can't even begin to go into why that would be down the list of first questions asked regarding a light that wont activate.

But as for your problem you need to do the basic problem shooting checks so "I guess" you will need a volt meter! If you are working on any vehicle that is an inexpensive and VITAL tool to have. Electrical problems are not guess work and are easy to solve with the correct steps and tools. With out them you could easily dame more electrical parts by hit and miss guessing what a solution is. Lecture done! LOL
