Default Auto tilting side mirrors

In a 2014 GrandTouring - the driver side mirror sometimes tilts down in reverse, sometimes doesn't. Sometimes tilts back up, sometimes doesn't. Changing the Driver number on the seat, changing key fobs and mirror selector doesn't seem to affect it. How does the mirror get the command to move? Is it in the shifter, the back-up light switch, the transmission?

Usually its related to the position of the mirror switch, Left / centre / Right.

I downloaded the owners manual for your car. I would make sure it is not working as designed before looking for a fault.

Power mirrors with reverse tilt down
function
When the ignition is switched ON and the
selector lever is shifted to the R position,
the outside mirrors tilt downward to
facilitate the view of the lower area on
each side of the vehicle.
1. Switch the left/right power door mirror
selector switch to the left or right side.
2. Shift the selector lever to the R position
while depressing the brake pedal. The
outside mirrors tilt downward
automatically.
