2016 CX-9 Hitch & Harness

That is not a bad price. However, if the dealer is available installed at $300, I might just do that to safe any headache with potential warranty claim denial. Besides, a cat III tow hitch is not really necessary since it can only tow 3,500 lbs. Not exactly good for bringing your car to the track (unless you race shifter carts). For my motorcycle, it should be fine.

What possible warranty claim? What could go wrong that is subject to the warranty? The only denial is if you do work that causes the damage, and only that damage would be of concern, nothing else. And, what could be damaged? Lower the muffler a couple of inches, put the receiver on with four bolts, put the muffler back, you're done.
The Class II receiver with the 1-1/4" square tube is rated to tow 3,500#, the same as the car. And, this costs about the same as the Class III receiver with the 2" square tube. There are more accessories available for the 2" tube. Why bother with the 1-1/4" one?

etrailer has a nice installation video. From the video, no trimming required.

how to remove panel?
I just installed a class III hitch with 2" receiver by Draw-Tite. ($130.00)
A muffler shop installed the hitch for $30.00. Took them 20 minutes.
The dealership only carried the lower class and smaller receiver.
I did use the OEM trailer wiring harness kit.(No cost usually $66).
I did the harness install myself, took less than an hour, and comes with very good instructions.
You have to remove some panels and you just plug it into the factory harness.
