nav system & lights
Do any of you in theUSA that have the nav. systemhave your headlights on auto during the day?
Mine are not on and if I turn the switch to on the nav. system dims and if wearing sunglasses you can barely see the display. I tell the system to go to daylight mode and it repeats the command but nothing happens.
Is this normal?
I would like the headlights on during the day similar to most of the new cars.

So I just got a 2008 Mazda CX-7 AWD w/ Tech package, and that was one of the first things I noticed is that when you turn on the headlights during the day, the nav and clock go dim to the point that you really can't seem them with sunglasses on. Has anyone tried to contact the Mazda service folks to see if there is a workaround, or has anyone found a way to get around this? I tried looking in the manual and playing with the brightness/contrast, but that didn't help.
Before I bought this, the 2007 Murano that I was driving had the option on the navigation setup to go from Auto to Day or Night, and changing it from Auto to Day kept the navigation screen brightly lit regardless of the time of day or headlights on or off.

I don't have the nav system, but my clock and audio display dim when the lights are turned on. To get around this push the **** that controls the brightness, and it should kick it back up to bright. At least it does on mine.
All Mazda models including the CX-7 in Canada come with a DRL (Daylight Running Lights) module fitted as required by law in Canada. This means whenever the car is not in Park the external lights come on automatically. Seperate DRL modules can also be bought and installed in the CX-7 from most major auto shops in the US.
By using DRL the nav system and dash lights do not dim when the external light are on.
You can contact your Mazda dealer and ask them for this module (part number and price) or get a universal one installed.
The difference between the US and Canadian model is just the DRL module, I got this confirmation from Mazda North Americal headquarters in wrriten when I contacted them.

I live in California and I do not have any Daylight Running Lights. I can just run on parking lights if I pop on the switch for just them. Otherwise I have no lights on my car at all. I prefer it this way.
I will turn them on when on 2 lane highways in the day time but otherwise they are off in the day.
I hate nanny systems that do not leave me in control... If I want them on I will turn them on.

Not really clear or told to owners when they buy the car.
