There may be a difference in Oils specified by Mazda USA & New Zealand/Australia. In my market, for the 2.3ltr Turbo AWD CX7, Mazda has a Dedicated ATF just for the CX7 & MX5 #K020-W0-049 20L

For the FWD 2.5 NA CX7 they use MV/M5 ATF.

Your close to my age.

My transaxle takes this fluid.

I can not find a local dealer who has it, only Ebay.
I would prefer to buy it locally.

I was wondering if some tubing could be stuck in the ATF dipstick tube and the fluid sucked out ?

That's how I do it on cars which require ATF fluid service. I use this device:

I found out that my car has no transmission drain plug. :-(

My mechanic charges $125 to drop pan and install new gasket and filter.

I thought about using a pump to change it out, but it still leaves a old filter in place.

Since I will only be changing about 1/3 of the ATF out, I may use a pump after the filter change.

My manual does not say what the total capacity of ATF in the transmission.

Funny thing about the filters in automatic transmissions; unless the transmission itself is coming apart, I've never once seen a filter which required changing. Honda figured that out a long time ago and started using unserviceable filters good for the life of the vehicle.

These days, the only time I bother changing a transmission filter is when there is a gasket leak or other issue requiring a pan drop; otherwise I just extract the fluid with my oil extractor and refill.

I got the fluid transfer pump.

Got out 2.5 quarts.

Will repeat 2 more times a month apart.

I have the Mightyvac labeled one. Same thing from the pic's. I went to the local Menards and bought some short pieces of PVC pipe to store the hoses. Works great

What we do at work is remove the outlet hose from the transmission cooler, hang it down into a drain container, start the car wait for the stream of ATF to splutter, turn it off, add 5 ltrs of ATF, start car & wait for stream of ATF to splutter, turn off, add more ATF, etc etc all until the ATF flowing out is perfectly clean. Reconnect the hose, top up ATF, run it up to temp, check fluid level, run it thru the gears, back into Park, re check fluid level, roads test, recheck fluid, all done.
