Cx7 transmission
I have a 2009 CX7.
Does it have a transmission pan plug ? And what ATF would you recommend ? Thanks |
So, nobody knows ?

I'd bet dollars to donuts your transmission does not have a drain plug; use only Mazda ATF.
|
Your response does not inspire me.'

Why? Most manufacturers use full synthetic ATF these days and as such, transmission service to drain and replace ATF are not very frequent. As for using Mazda ATF, once again, most manufacturers design their transmissions, or better said the clutches in their transmissions, to work with an ATF which has a very specific coefficient of friction(COF), using the incorrect ATF, even if it happens to have a superior base oil, will ruin your transmission. If you find a particular aftermarket ATF which is *CERTIFIED* to conform to the Mazda standard, then you're safe buying it and not the Mazda OEM stuff.
Consult your Owner's Manual for the correct ATF specification. |
My 1st question was where the drain plug is.
No one answered. ?? Consult your Owner's Manual for the correct ATF specification. Mazda are known for their long life. I had a Protege with over 242,000 miles. It was getting 40/30 mpg. |

You must be VERY young.

'07 thru '12 CX-7's with 2.3L turbo used T-IV, or T4. '10-'12 with 2.5L uses M-V, or M5. The 2.5L does have a drain plug in the pan where as I don't believe the turbo did. I like to see 30,000 mile intervals in my neck of the woods, especially if we have a heavy snow. Trans oil is destroyed by heat, spinning tires in snow develops a lot of torque converter heat. The new Skyactives shift themselves into neutral at a stop light, less heat. Synthetic trans oil gives them a 100K mile interval.
Anyhow, If yours takes the M5, the top knob on the trans dipstick tube will be orange and marked MV. Otherwise it's black and the dipstick itself will me imprinted with T-IV. And yes, I would buy the oil direct from Mazda due to manufacturing specifics. Approx 4-4 1/2 quarts to refill with a pan off change. |
Thanks Sparky.
