Default Questions Before I Buy

Hello all. New to this forum and this is my first post. I’m loving the look of the CX-50 and seriously considering the turbo Premium Plus Package trim. Went to a dealership yesterday and sat in one and pulled me in more. Loving the poly metal gray combo with either terracotta or black interior . I’ve never owned a Mazda and I hear that reliability is one of its strengths. That is high on my list. I’ve owned Lexus and never had any major issues. But before I dive in, I have a few questions which some of you CX-50 owners may be able to answer.

1. Bose sound system - how does it sound? I didn’t get to listen to it while at the dealership.

2. Brakes - are they ceramic or semi metallic. I’ve owned German cars and didn’t like the heavy brake dust. Had to wash the wheels every other day to keep them clean.

3. What don’t you like about the car?

4. I have a friend who owned a CX-9. Forgot the year but it was at least 10 years old when he got rid of it. The water pump went bad after 10 years and it would’ve cost $3K to fix since the water pump is in an area where the engine would have to pulled to replace it. I hope this car is not the same.

5. Due to the current shortage, most dealers are adding markup over MSRP. I’m told it will be this way for a while. I’m not willing to pay markup. I’d rather keep my old car than over pay. Am I being unrealistic in these times?

Sorry for the long post but just have to get these questions answered before I pull the trigger. Thanks in advance.

I'm not a new CX-50 owner but a new 2022 CX-5 Premium Plus owner.

1. The Bose system in my CX-5 is good but, nothing special.
2. Very little brake dust from my CX-5. I'd think there would not be any difference on the CX-50. I don't think anything about Mazda's brakes are of higher performance.
3. I cant speak to this one.
4. Are you really going to keep a vehicle for 10 years?
5. I'm in total agreement with you on this one. I paid full MSRP to the blood suckers for my CX-5 and it still made me angry. Absolutely never ever will I be gouged, abused and be stupid enough to pay more than MSRP for any common mainstream vehicle.

#4. I still have my 2006 Lexus and no problems, so yes it’s possible I may keep it for more than 10 years. But with more and more EVs coming out, who knows if I will keep it 10 years this time.

I have the Bose system in my CX5 and compared to many it sounds pretty good..

No brake dust that I have noticed

I would like the radio to have a touch screen vs the **** !

I wont keep it Ten years so not worried

My dealer went 1K below msrp without really asking, Please shop around.

Are you saying your dealer for no reason said something like " Pay no attention to that MSRP window sticker. Take $1,000 off that"?

Found a dealer that will not add markup over MSRP (so they say). They do add the accessory package for $1,200. Add-ons that are not worth that much. Now the problem is, they don’t have the color I’m looking for. She thinks they may get it soon or can trade with a sister dealership. If this becomes a bait and switch, I’m walking. Simple as that.

I just said I like the car and will take it now- I asked for 1K off sticker, they said OK so I bought it. I truly did not need a new car, Just wanted to take advantage of the high trade in offers so I had nothing to lose.

Such a deal and I'm glad for you. You found a dealer who maintains some integrity. If they caved that fast, don't you wonder what kind of discount you could have obtained if you did a bit of negotiating? It's a shame so many dealers have become such blood sucking leaches. I hope the buying public remembers how dealers treated them when it returns to a buyers market.

Since I felt the deal was fair I did not ask for anything more, I understand they have to make some money as well. I agree with you, This was my first dealing with this dealer group and I will remember this when it's time for a new car in a few years..

Again, I'm glad you didn't have to pay MSRP or more. Even with the $1K discount off MSRP your dealer still made a handsome profit off the one he sold you as well as your trade. I too wanted to take advantage of the better than usual trade values but, I could do no better than MSRP on my CX-5
