1.Bluetooth interface is junk, has to download contacts every time, takes forever, very annoying.
2.The arm rest/console needs to be closer to the steering wheel as well as the arm rest on the door, there is no comfortable way to rest your arm while holding the wheel.
3.Should have a hatch pop inside.
I'm sure there is more, just off the top of my head.

I have a 2015 and the hood is pretty heavy, much heavier than it looks, especially when you need to open it. My mirror is ok as well.

Thumbs down Service Interval Warning

It is very annoying that the Service Interval Warning message seems to understand only the 5,000 mile interval.

If the 5k mile interval is so important than it needs a warning message then why are there two different service schedules? One for 5k miles and one for 7.5k miles? Most of my driving is around town and it would be nice if I could change the warning message interval to 7.5k miles so I don't have to keep pushing the Info button to get rid of the warning that appears every time you start the engine.

Annoying, very annoying.

Overall I have grown to like the CX-5, I was on the fence big time at first but I am not sure the 2014 Forester Touring would have been that much better.

My beef, and mainly because I went out for the Grand Touring and would have like some more "luxury" in it.

Deck/Nav/Other:
- Voice recognition is the worst I have personally used
- Cannot create routes or itineraries from your computer
- Interface is the older TomTom interface and not the newer one

- BT is as already said, terrible In that it takes a long time to connect

-No good way to go from Engine on to Power on. Would like to be able to turn the engine off and still have the radio on, or charging stuff without having to press the button a couple more times. Or, turning the car off with it not in Park works too.

Auto Trans:
-Could use some better programming for load/uphill situations. Kicking it down a gear (sooner) or holding higher RPMs longer would be nice. I noticed improvement on this when the A/C is on.

Nice to haves, not issues:
- Sunroof seems small (came from a 04' forester though so it might be normal size)
- Seat heaters are middle of the road, not a lot of variety in the 3 settings
- Reclining back seats would be wonderful
- Would love adaptive radar Cruise Control like the 6 has would have made sense

Complete side note, anyone tested the City Brake Assist? I do not have anyone brave enough to help me (Sarcastic)

Here is my 2cents. Fix the stupid software that does not allow me to lock the liftgate but requires me to walk 10 feet away before it locks. Stupid security issue. Do you really want me to depend on Mazda for that? Just let me verify the damn trunk is locked please.

You've got that right. Too much "truck" in the ride. If the Interstate is nice then the ride is okay but rough roads (as in the S.F. Bay area) will shake your teeth out.

I have a Garmin (after market) in my Prius and it is much better than the TomTom. Also, it seems that Garmin does a lot better job of keeping their maps up to date but yeah, the update service is more expensive.

Not only is the connect time long but it has a major problem recognizing Talk Radio services that are being streamed to the source. It takes a lot of fiddling to get the connection while connecting to music services happend without the extra poking around.

Not sure about other cars with POWER ON/OFF buttons but my Prius has the same step through requirement. Essentially, it's an "if->then" tree in software.

The entire throttle/transmission mating software needs a lot of work. I can't tell you how many times I have just touched the accelerator and jumped halfway across the crosswalk. While at other time the move-out is quite smooth. Just finished a holiday through the Rockies and if you can drive on cruise control the management of the engine RPMs is much better but if you are having to drive it yourself because of winding roads you often find the engine loading down and then suddenly the transmission seems to downshift (maybe two gears). I have also noticed that if you opt for manual shifting, first gear is pretty low and you can find yourself facing some high RPMs without much speed.

It's no secret that Mazda tunes it's suspension to the sporty side. The 19" wheels on the GT make the ride harsher still. Swap out the 19" wheels for the 17" on the touring will lessen the harshness. I have the touring and I don't think the ride is bad at all. Although I do prefer a sporty tune.

My previous car to the CX-5 was a 2007 Civic. The stock suspension and tires of the Civic were a real gut buster. I changed to softer sidewall tires (cheap tires) just to soften the ride. The CX-5 Touring has a softer ride than the Civic, but still agile. I find the CX-5 ride is a good compromise between great handling and comfort. The CX-5 suspension is more like a sporty car than a truck. It gives you confidence in city/highway driving, but not made for potholes or off roading.

When at a stop with foot on brake, turn engine off in Drive or Neutral and the radio will continue to play, then put it in Park.

  • Power lift gate with release on key fob
  • Fix the back seats so that the head rest aren't ginormous or at least so that the back seat will fold down without sliding the front seat forward or removing the headrests on the back seat
  • Add MazdaConnect infotainment system
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • 3rd engine choice with more HP (or maybe a Mazdaspeed version?)
  • Standard LED lights in the interior and LED lights on the front and rear of the vehicle
  • Automatically open all four windows from driver's side with one click, and also auto-close the sunroof with one click or when engine is turned off
  • Memory seats
  • Better cargo net
  • Add just a few small chrome touches on the sides, like maybe the door handles and around the windows
  • Better sound system
