Just curious if it's just my car or if others have noticed this and if there is anything that can be done. (Blame my OCD). When setting the cruise speed to say 60, 65, 70, 75, Waze gps speed reports as 61, 66, 71, 76 respectively. I thought cars were supposed to report higher than actual from the manufacturer not under. I mean, it's not THAT important to most, but it triggers me a bit to have it off at all, let alone the wrong direction. 22 Preferred.
What makes you think that Waze is more accurate than the CX-5 speedometer? Do you have the latest updates? There are many reports across the Internet of inaccurate speeds displayed by Waze.
Mine is off by so little I am used to seeing -approx. 1 mph when comparing GPS on the map and on my dash cameras. There is no area to calibrate (that I am aware of and looked in my ECU) in the MAZDA Skyactiv ECU? I have looked and still look at other Mazda coming into the shop when I test drive them and have not seen one yet that was off slightly like mine. I have not had a speedometer recalibration service in the 5 years I have been in this shop either? So I have to conclude mine must be a position alignment of the display panel that was for some reason ever so slightly off?? IDK??
I don't want to say that it is common or uncommon, for a newer Mazda from 2015 and newer but it has been reported on other platforms from time to time but mostly olde pre 2015?
So I am going to pass the question to Grim_Reaper and see what he says?
My 2014 was spot on with the OEM Toyo tires and the replacement Goodyears that I put on it. However, when I went to the Michelin Crossclimate2's, the +1mph on the GPS showed up. I just figured the tires made the difference and it's so small that I'm not really concerned about it.
Yes, blame your OCD.
In the grand scheme of life, a 1 mph difference in a speedometer reading is meaningless.
Perhaps this would be a good time to work on your OCD

Yes but...... when you fly and use the analog gauges and comparing to the digital readout if the needle is not aligned on the analog then it gives pause to check things out and decide what is wrong. In the Mazda it irratint as all hell when I set the cruise for 55 and the speedo indicates 54 and the GPS(s) indicate 55 the little white line is not align perpendicular tot he needle..... aaaaauuuuuuuHHHHH!!!!!!
And it has nothing to do with tire diameter because I use 3 different wheels and tire combinations and they are all the same reading.
The good news for me is when i track the MAZDA the Tachometer is directly in the center of the speedometer area so that is all I see is the engine speed.

The other potential problem is some of those small towns will have a zero tolerance stand on speed and will ticket you for 1 mph over. You might be able to fight it by taking it out of mayor's court, but, often, the fine is less than the cost of fighting it. I fought several when I was still practicing law just for the principle of the thing, but I probably wouldn't bother doing it today, so when I'm driving through those areas, I set my cruise for 5 mph under the limit.

My speedo is minus 1 mph ... and with 2 separate dash cams with there own separate GPS signal enhancer.
Oh and I do have a Lazar Jammar (R9 on loan for testing only) for the purpose of accuracy to possibly offer some additional products from my company
But yes good point about those states that still allow officers who's hero is Bernard "Barney" Fife to sit at blind spot intersections and behind trees to cath the vilans that exceed 2 mph over the posted speed limits.
If it is that close, count your blessings! Most every vehicle I've ever had was about 10% optimistic, meaning it indicated faster than Garmin or other GPS device.
