Anybody know about what a water pump replacement should run for a 2016 CX-5 with the 2.5 natural aspirated engine? I was putting new belts on my 2016 with 117K miles and notice the water pump was leaking from the weep hole. I got one estimate but I think they thought it has an internal pump. $600 for a water pump. If I had a garage, I'd replace it myself. I just don't want to lay out in the rain and snow.

I'm seeing pumps for $40 to $90. A couple of hours labor at most.

 

It is a close estimate, which varies from state to state and city to city.

I would recommend the two belts replaced as well a cooling system cleaning a replacement of coolant. 3 hours @150hr labor 450 parts water pump 2 belts coolant maybe 150/175 off the top of my head so here in my state and city . Only 2182 miles from your location . Lol
So a bit cheaper and you would be getting a certificate ASE mechanic assigned to the work . This means the cooing system serviced and pressure tested for leaks, complete flushing of the cooling system which excludes all the hoses and heater core, radiator cap pressure tested , water pump and bets R&R , test drive and service work checked for completion by a separate Tech ( that would be me) lol. Then when customer picks up vehicle all the replaced parts are in a box for viewing and or to take , the service work is explained and shown, than a short test drive with the customer .Than and only then if the customer is satisfied and has no questions the service bill is finalized and paid .
And that what we do and how I run the shop.

First off, the cooling system was serviced a week ago along with new plugs, new filters and so on. The tensioner and belts were the last things to do When I was under there doing the tensioner and belts, that's when I noticed the coolant dye stain at the weep hole. I've been checking with other reputable shops.

If I do it myself, $120 for a good pump and gaskets. It looks to me to be a 2 hour or so job. I just don't want the bother. I'll probably let the one shop do it just to not spend two hours in that tight area.

Seems most of you threads are sorta negative about some shop doing service on your Mazda?

 

I see you are your usual charming self. The dealership has replaced most of their service staff so I thought I'd give them a try. As for service, the car is pretty trouble free. I would normally do it myself but age and health issues are making that more difficult.

If I went to your shop and had the tires rotated like the dealer did one time, and the wheels almost fell off down the road, I'd complain about you. Companies read these forums and will encourage dealers cleaning up their acts.

 

That would NEVER happen in the shop I run, I have to many checks before any work is signed off, and the customer returns to pick their vehcle.! Get real where do you get your info from oh wait, I know...(see picture below)
And NO..... service related shops and companies DO NOT spend time reading vehicle forums because they all now that they are biased and un-balanced for information and most responding about service they get are 90% negative > I have a marketer and even for my product line he never uses forums for input information. Reall dude you are funny at time how you think!

 

I hear you. I had that happen on a 96 4Runner at the dealership where I bought it and the one I traded in on it and which I had used regularly. My right rear wheel fell off as I was pulling out of the lot after service. Luckily, no suspension or body damage, but they had to replace the rotor,, lug nuts, almost new Wrangler tire and a very expensive custom wheel (that they weren't happy about). I had taken it in for service and check up as I was leaving in a week for a trip to Arizona and they had to scramble to get the wheel in time. Never went back there.
