So we just replaced the crap OEM tires a week or so ago. Yesterday the TPMS went off, I just happened to be right by the Discount tire that did the work so I pulled in for a pressure check
Four corners were okay, so the tech said "Must be the spare". When he lifted up the floor to access the spare he says "Hmmm, you got water in here!"
Sure enough, there was at least 1/2" of standing water in the spare tire well. It's clean water, not moldy or rank, so I don't think it's been there long.
We did recently have some pretty good rain for a number of days off & on, wife is working from home (her car) so the car wasn't driven much in the rain, so I figure it's got to running in from above (Plus it's too much water to have "splashed" up from below.) but the carpet wasn't wet or discolored so I can't tell where it's getting in.
Anyone ever experienced anything like this?
Just occurred to me that there's probably drain hole(s) in that well, maybe a plug is missing. Worth checking.

Welcome! What year is your wife's CX-5? Does it have the sunroof? Are there trees where the vehicle gets parked? (Sarcasm) I thought it never rains in southern California?!

Thank you! She has a 2016 GT which does have a sunroof, does the drain tube run towards the back end, like the spare tire well area?
Yeah, normally it does not rain here. That's why we lose our minds and everyone just starts playing bumper cars on the freeways when it does. We had a storm a few weeks ago that gave us of a third of our annual average in about 6 days.

I was experiencing the same problem. Just got it back from Mazda on Friday. they said it was the seal around the rear hatch motor and electronics. They replaced it so hopefully it solve the problem. We'll see what happens when it rains next time.

My question is off topic from the original thread, but I am curious to know how you judged the OEM tires to be CRAP?
How long did you run them? time? and miles?
Did you have flats, or tread separation?
I am wondering what kind of life to expect on these tires

We bought it as a certified pre-owned with 15K miles, and tires were toast at 26,000 which is pretty normal from what I've been reading in other posts.
No flats, and they performed adequately, they just wear out quickly.

Thanks for the reply... yes, based on the treadwear rating on the tire I expected that the tire life might be somewhat shorter than a comparative replacement all season or all terrain tire. Likely because the rubber is soft providing a little softer ride and a little more traction. The tires worked well in the snow we had at the end of Feb when we bought it. Since covid19 set in we have hardly driven the CX-5 anywhere.
