Ticking noise question.
Hi,
I noticed today my car sounds like a clock ticking when it is first started in the morning or left out in the cold- Is this a normal Mazda noise?
2022 CX-5 NA - About 100 miles on it- it goes away pretty quickly
Thanks

This is common on the MX5. On that vehicle, the solution is to floor the accelerator and press the start button or turn the key for about five seconds, then release the button or key, remove your foot from the accelerator and start normally. On the MX5, flooring the accelerator prevents the engine from starting, but allows it to turn which gets the oil into the head to lubricate everything. I think that would probably work on the CX5 as well, but I'm not positive. Maybe Callisto could comment on this.
What you are hearing is most likely the fire front of the combustion exiting into the exhaust to enable quick warm up of the catalytic convertor. Mazda varies exhaust cam timing, fuel & ignition timing to enable this.
