Default Set Shift Lever to "P" when turning off my CX-5

I'm seeing this prompt "Set Shift Lever to "P"" when ever I park my cx-5 and push the start button. I have a 2014 CX-5 Grand Touring All Wheel Drive. From my googling, I found that it may have something to do with 'indicator slider of the shifter'. Though, I'm not really sure if this is correct or not. Any thoughts and what it may be and cost in repairing this?

Might be the root cause. I had a similar issue with my VW Golf and they replaced the lever shifter under warranty. Since this is related to powertrain/mechanical, you might be still under warranty as well.

Is your vehicle always in Park before you turn it off?

Nope, it's not under warranty anymore. I bought it back late 2013 but modeled as 2014. @grim_reaper, yes it's always on 'P' park when pushing the start/stop button to turn off the car.

Do you have high mileage? Based on age, the powertrain warranty is 5 years, that would bring you to late 2018 unless of course you already have more than 60,000 miles.
