Default Rear wiper arm pressure on glass

I have a 2023 CX-5. It seems like the rear wiper arm goes not provide much pressure in applying blade to glass. In very cold periods of winter months only the top and bottom of the blade touch the glass. The center portion does not seem to clean the area. In lifting arm it does not seem to have a tremendous amount of spring for to it.

I have had this issue since new. I have not tried changing the blade but I somehow doubt that is the issue because during warmer periods the wiper works fine.

It is usually the wiper arm. Try a different designed like a specific winter assembly blade and arm or at least an Aero Spring arm and blade combo?

The factory wiper blade is a standard blade. In below freezing temperatures the blade itself will ice up and do exactly what you are describing. If you take a few moments to pick up the blade off the glass and flex it back and forth by the ends and run your fingers up and down the length of the blade along the sides of it (to clear any ice), it should work normally.

You can also replace the factory blade with an aftermarket one that is a beam design. This will greatly reduce any blade icing and non-contact with the windshield.

My experience is the OEM blade on the rear is not sufficient for "real" winter conditions.
I replace it with a winter blade and don't have an issue, until summer as the winter blade is not great for just rain.
I swap mine out spring and fall and only replace with new when needed.

I always notice that the rear wipers on our CX-5s leave 3 trails of streaks on the back glass when they get old. It's like the top, middle, and bottom of the blade make contact but you can still see their streaks when it's dirty.

The rear window tends to get the dirtiest so cleaning more frequently helps the wiper perform better.

Yeah, I always hate that first rear window wiper pass with all the sand/dirt and salt that gets on it in the winter driving here.
It's just a version of wet sanding the glass...

I ordered a set of ice and snow wipers a while back from Amazon. I was keeping them as spares so I would be ready to swap them out. I opened package today. The 2 front wipers are beam design. Unfortunately the rear is the more conventional with a frame design. It does however seem to have a lot of spring in it. When it is not -17C I will swap it out and see if it improves things.

I still say that the ream arm exerts very little pressure on the window. It has been that way since day one.

We will see.

I have removed the rear wipers on all but my Explorer. Rain-x seems to be the best solution for rain and snow, at least for me. Even so I change my front wiper at least 3 time a year and completely remove them during the summer months
