My new CX-5 has 2 slots, and one won't recognise USB's with MP3 tracks on when memory stick is USB C.
Tried several but on screen appears slightly greyed out; see image.
New one is a KODAK brand one, but as with a previous quality USB shows as unsupported
The Kingston one that does work is normal USB A, with adapter to convert it to fit in a USB C slot. Any thoughts appreciated.

I would think you can only use one USB drive at a time, but somone can correct me as I don't use that method at all myself. I know that these cars can be very picky with the USB drives and the formats. Are both your ports USB-C (oval), or the old USB-A (rectangular)?
In my 2023 Mazda CX-5, I have the same USB-C connectors.
I have a USB-C stick in one port and a USB-A stick with a USB-C adapter in the other at the same time.
By selecting the USB connector in the infotainment system, I can choose which USB stick to play music from.
My 2022 CX-5 has two older USB-B ports but, like others on the forums, I've found them consistently unreliable when connecting flash drives (I’ve tried three different drives.) About every third or fourth startup, the flash drive is greyed-out. (Other audio sources, radio, phone, are unaffected.) Nothing I've tried ever restored connection except restarting (about 70% of the time). This is true for both ports. Oddly, connecting my iPhone via the designated rear-most USB port has never failed.
I haven’t heard that Mazda has a fix for this annoyance.
You should give the year of your CX-5 and trim level as well as this may change the answer.
Looks like a 2025 as it appears theres a wireless charger in the tray at the bottom of the pic- as well its not a US car --since we can see the start switch is right wheel drive

I have used different brands of USB-A sticks in my CX-3 without any problems.
The same sticks also work fine with a USB-A to USB-C adapter in my current 2023 CX-5.
Right now, I use a KEXIN stick that has a USB-A plug on one side and a USB-C plug on the other and it was the smallest USB-C stick I could find in terms of size (not in storage capacity).
