Default passenger air bag

I have a 2015 f/lift mazda cx5 and the problem is that the passenger air bag is still off even when i am sitting on the passenger seat. Is there a reason why this might be happening?

What do you mean by "OFF"?

I mean is automatically deactivated when no one is sitting on the passenger seat (airbag wont deploy in case of an accident). it should again activate when there is a front passenger sitting but still it stays off

This could be any number of things, but the first thing to check is the sensor on the seat. If you weigh less than 100 pounds, it won't trigger it. If that's not it, the sensor could be knocked out of place or the wires not connected properly. This is a common problem on the MX5. Find the sensor, disconnect the wires and then reconnect them. If that doesn't seem to be the problem, then you might be looking at some more serious issues.

By the way, a lot of times, problems like these can be fixed by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it. You lose all your radio and other settings, but it resets the computer for many electrical issues.

It could also be the electronic controller for the airbag. Another common MX-5 issue, but not one I’ve ever run across on CX-5.

I'm having the same issue. Water was spilled on the passenger seat, and now it does not detect the presence of a passenger. The airbag light indicates that it is disabled, even with a passenger seated.

I tried drying it out, but it still is inactive.

Can anyone tell me how to get to the front passenger occupant classification sensor in the seat? Is there a diagram or tutorial somewhere? Part number?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: It's a 2016 CX-5 with heated seats.
