First welcome to the forum. What Mazda do you own, how long have you had it and so on.

To your specific question, the compass is displayed when the SD card cannot be read. Check to see that it is fully inserted in the slot (and not knocked out by something or stolen). Try popping it out and reinserted and restart the car. If that does not work, you may have a bad SD card that a dealer should be able to replace. I don't if they would help if you are out of warranty.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Default Navagation problem

The Cx-5 is a reconditioned 2016 GT without warranty. It has 8800 miles. While trying to open Navigation I get the compass. I updated maps, in the SD card, using the Mazda website, but that did not cause it to open in the vehicle. The Mazda dealer found module was burnt. The seller furnished another module, reinserted the card an got same result. I checked the USB ports in the module and they are live and work well. The version report is OS 55.00.753 NA N and Fail Safe 55.00.753.
Mazda recommends Ver. 59.00.504. Should the system respond at all on the older version of firmware? Is the newer version of firmware available on internet or is it a dealer only install?

I am not an expert, so don't depend too much on my advice.

The firmware for my Mazda 3 was updated with the software that installed the latest maps. You should be able to download the latest version of the firmware. It looks to me that SD card is indicating that it was originally installed in another vehicle. (Perhaps your vehicle before the module was changed!)

If you can prove that the vehicle originally came with Navigation, Mazda or the dealer should be willing to help you get the navigation working.

SD cards are locked to the original vehicle after very short distance, maybe 60 miles?
