New CX-5 Carbon Edition
I run currently Continental Precontact on my Mazda and also have used them on other vehicles in the past. My Mazda is 3300lbs wet.(certifide by the state of CALIFRNIA weight and measure) not Mazda BS claims with generally no indication if it was curb or wet weight? Now you add 1 passenger and me that another 280lbs. I did not have my spare or tire tools which would have added another 55 lbs. Mazda is good for not posting values indicting curb or wet? I found that if I push the car on wet pavement, I can break the traction 40mph @ .30 "G" flat turn cold tarmac. Light snow or slush forgets about it they don't like snow. LOL I do like the ULTRA quiet ride and it does not IMHO look that bad. Cosmetically speaking. It does pick up small amounts of pebbles. Braking hard/emergency stopping is well controlled but that is more the MAZDA engineering (maybe a little my driving experience?
) then necessarily the tire. I have had to test both a few times with idiot drivers that have no business or experience level to be driving on any public roads and highways. I also have upgraded suspension parts which supports any tires I may choose to use increasing their performance levels. The tire tread design for the average daily driver in most all driving conditions would be something I could confidentially recommend. to consider.

Wow, great to hear you Pro race! Lots of technical details here, not that advanced race-wise but have lots of years city and highway driving. Was looking at the Conti Precontacts you mention, thanks for the snow update. We do receive light and occasionally heavy snow here in NE. Also, looking at Pirielli Scorpion AS Plus 3 mentioned earlier and Vredestein HITRAC tires.
FYI:
I liked the Conti and after much research I put them on my Honda-CRV, however they wore far too soon (barely 20K) and very unevenly.
Despite free rotations and checking multiple times to make sure alignment and everything else being in spec, they were bad enough that I got all new tires for free (no prorating). Meaning the shop, I use, and Continental do stand by their products, but it was still a hassle requiring another trip to the shop.
I have no idea how the new replacements held up as I traded the CRV a month later.
Could be the CRV didn't like them, a bad batch or just a weird anomaly, I'll never know for sure.
I never had an issue with any Conti tires I used on my sport touring motorcycles.

Below I just took the Coni's and still waiting to install my new tires. Yup I procrastinate on project big time. LOL
If you look at the http of 2 examples of how I care for my tires you can understand better my comment in the very begging of this thread?
Notice the pebbles... LOL

You're slacking...I can see one small rock in the tread
The Conti's on my CRV all wore on the inside, and I check my tire pressure weekly.
Like I said the rims were fine, rotated as required and alignment checked frequently (because of the wear).
The shop could not explain the reason for the wear, nor had they ever seen it before.
It also did not affect the handling at least that I could perceive.
I had the CRV through multiple tire changes and the Conti's were the only brand that had an issue on the CRV.
In my 70 years I've seen some weird ****e...and sometimes certain brands just don't work on certain brands even though they say they will.
Guitar strings, tires, snowmobile drive belts, ski bindings, toner cartridges, printer paper, handlebars, drive chains, bullets, lenses, batteries, condoms...the list is endless.
I'm sure we could find the reason why if we had unlimited resources but most of us don't have the money or resources.

I knmow what the problem was the align "person" (not know is expeence and actiall trained as in certifide) went only be the specification range of Mazda instead of useing thier knoggin and ajusting outside the factory spoecified range. Most do not understand that those setting are what gives the partial MPG information stated on new car FEDEARL required sticker about the vehicle. The other interesting fun fact is that tires no matter where they are prurchased or installed in set of 4 or more all will have diffent times and dates they were made. So you know where that going!

And as for that one line yup had a couple break on me and scared the bajesus out of mean for a few weeks until I got the all clear....

so imagine bringing into a good shop to get your car aligned with exactly how you want the setting and get told they cant go outside the factory specifications? LOL
