Default Missing "internal" fastener when replacing rear bumper

Full disclosure: I don't know the actual names of the components and parts so thanks for bearing with my descriptions.

I bought a prepainted rear bumper cover for my 2016.5 CX-5. Everything worked out well except there seems to be a missing fastener/clip/hinge in the back of the body (driver's side)where the bumper cover is supposed to attach to. Please see the attached pictures.

I am looking for the right part or a way to fix this because the bumper cover is sticking out and looks terrible. I found some very similar looking parts online but they were for the front bumper.

Any ideas what I could do?

I suspect you might have had the original metal retainer clip pop off when you removed the old cover. Have you looked at it?
Failing that, the only thing I see that might include the requisite piece is :

Yes, I still kept the old bumper cover and looked all over it but can't find the clip
