Mazda GF6 oil moly content
Hi all.. can anyone tell me where i can find information on the moly content of Mazdas newer GF6 Eco7 0w20 oil? Or maybe someone knows? I know it has moly in it, says it on the back of the bottle but im just wondering how much compared to the old gf5 version.
Welcome to the forum
interesting question but just curious why?
But if you were in the USA you can contact the distributor of any motor oil and they will either have that information or can give you where you may find more information about it .
How much as it is formulated in any motor oil is generally proprietary and generally not giving out by the formulations % or amount and it’s not on the SDS or MSDS except basic info for OSHA .
If you are wanting a higher amount you can add it yourself but why would you? *

As Callisto replied, you can find out what is in the oil but will not get the actual formula/percentages.
There are two types of Moly, MoS2 and MoDTC with MoDTC the one generally used in motor oil.
The standard percentage is 1% to 5% Moly for engine oil but that varies with engine manufacturer.
There is no way of knowing how much is in the new Mazda oil without asking them, but I doubt they'll tell you.

Mazda does not formulate their oil it is done by a worldwide petroleum company. I have tried through the years to get technical information on various oils they formulate.... no joy!
You can get some information if you get the right department and a welling employee at Castrol and only if you ask for the exact CASTROL oil you are asking the information for.
But it goes back to if you are wanting to know the information and asking on a car forum you have no clue how Moly works in a formulated retail bottle of motor oil .

Microsoft Word - Understanding Engine bubble.doc
personally never pay attention because it is not important for me to see it there or not. The damager items like
Wear Metals Aluminum: Pistons, bearings Chromium: Rings, a trace element in steel Iron: Cylinders, rotating shafts, the valve train, and any steel part sharing the oil. Transmission shafts/gears and bearings in motorcycles Copper: Brass or bronze parts, copper bushings, bearings, oil coolers Lead: Bearings, leaded gas, fuel additives Tin: Bearings, bronze parts, piston coating (rare) Nickel: Trace element in steel, platings on some cylinder types Silver: Bearings Titanium: Some intake valves and connecting rods, aftermarket parts, oil additive
But I can see that additives like MOLY are there but in 100 parts per million scaled in the oil sample.
Additives Molybdenum: Anti-wear additive, some types of rings Manganese: Trace element, additive in some gasoline Boron: Anti-wear/anti-rust additive, antifreeze inhibitor Calcium: Detergent/dispersant additive Magnesium: Detergent/dispersant additive Phosphorus: Anti-wear additive Zinc: Anti-wear additive Barium: Detergent/dispersant additive used in some synthetics
