Hello all. I am thinking about getting out of my 2012 3 for a newer CX5 - '22 or newer. There is literally only one reason why I am hesitant and that is the Infotainment system. My wife recently test drove a 30 and I didn't hate navigating around it but I wasn't in the car for more than 15 minutes so I doubt I got to really get a feel for it. I feel like my biggest concern would be how do you zoom in on maps and look ahead? For example, I'm in a traffic jam and Google Maps is open, I like to look ahead to see how long the jam is. W/o there being a touch screen, how is this accomplished? Is it even able to be accomplished? If you can, is the method user friendly?

I understand this is a Mazda forum so people might be hesitant to answer but I would love to hear what people feel are drawbacks of the Infotainment system. Thanks

 

With the cars optional, on some models, nav system just turning the wheel on the console zooms in and out on your location. Of course that requires Sirius XM for the traffic as well. Not sure about the Google Maps, but there must be a way to do that. Touching the screen while the car is moving is just a bit dangerous IMO.

 

You should be able to use the control wheel to zoom in or out, when using Google Maps in Carplay/AA. Easy.

 

By the way, you can switch between Carplay/AA and the factory infotainment by holding the home button.

 

Thanks for all the info, everyone. Seems like it's relatively easy to perform the main task that crossed my mind.

Can you think of anything else that might be important to know prior to test driving whenever I do? Anything that's kind of quirky or you have troubles with that I'm obviously not thinking of due to having very, very little exposure?

I wouldn't have the infotainment as a concern at all. I have two other cars both with 8" touch screens and navigating with the CX-5 is so much easier - intuitive and comfortable. In addition to the buttons and command **** you also have voice which does just about anything. Because of bumps and prioritizing the road I miss a lot on the touchscreens. I don't miss on my 22 CX-5. You don't really need the nav card either- both AA and CarPlay work great and as others said the **** allows zoom and scroll (at least in AA).

Things to check/think about:
Is either driver bothered by the position of the side mirrors?
The rear isn't roomy.
Side mirrors are not linked to seat position memory.
