That's impressive. My 2016 GT AWD is only getting 24 mpg and that is in rural driving at average speeds of 40-55 mph. No hammer foot here. Not real happy about it. My Tundra gas hog get's 16 in the same type of driving. I thought the difference would be far more substantial. I am running Continental True Contacts now as the OEM Toyo's were shot at 23k miles. Love the car but was hoping for more on the MPG scale.

Make sure you reset the info button when you fill up. I've got a 2018 GT and am getting about 28-30 combined.

I do reset that. If your getting that then the motor in the new version must be different. 25 MPG here with average speeds of 45-55 with top speeds of 70-75 highway. Car is properly maintained and tires are the Continental True Contact with the recommended pressures. I expected a bit more.

They did modify the engine. I'm getting a solid 29-30 doing 'around town' driving at 25-40; highway is between 28-30 depending on whether I'm driving or my husband. While the engine doesn't shut down at a full stop (like a number of new vehicles), a couple of cylinders do shut down at a full stop. My 2016 used to get between 25-28 in the winter, and 26-29 when it warmed up in the summer.

My 2018 CX-5 Grand Touring FWD (5,300 odometer) is my daily commuter, where I average 31MPG (refer to attached file). When the vehicle was new, my commute averaged 29MPG, so mileage has improved a bit after 5k miles.

I waited for the 2018 CX-5 with the active cylinder deactivation as I was concerned with posted MPGs on the 2017.
My 18 Grand Touring AWD gets an average of 28.5 in mixed (50/50) driving, 72 with cruise on the highway, and an AEM dry panel filter. On my last snowboarding trip from CT to NH I got 32.8 99% highway.
Loving it so far, my first non-Subaru since 1996! Got it in March, rounding out 9,000 miles!

Default CX5 Fuel Economy

We have a 2017 Grand Touring with front wheel drive and 16,500 on the odometer. Our overall average on mostly rural roads is 30 MPG. We recently got 33.2 on a 3,000 mile mostly highway trip to New England with the car packed and the AC running.

Some things I've noticed about the 2018 CX-5. It does not coast well at all (my 2014 Mazda 3 coasts forever). The cruise control takes a chunk off the mpg by keeping your speed the same going down hill. The radar cruise control takes a chunk out of mpg by slowing suddenly when you reach the vehicle in front, where as if you were driving it yourself, you would take your foot off the gas well before the radar cruise control slows.
