I bought a CX-5 last week at Galpin Mazda in Granada Hills, CA. I was pleased with my experience there for the most part. Here's the thing: they only handed me ONE key fob for the vehicle. I asked at the time why there wasn't a second fob. The answer was largely unsatisfying. It amounted to "that's the way it is with this vehicle". But another fob was available, of course, at full retail price.

This is the 5th vehicle I've had with keyless remote, and I always got 2 fobs.

So I decided to put it out there. How many key fobs did you get with your CX-5?

If it's true that Mazda only gives you one fob with your vehicle, then the salesman was telling the truth, and I'm good.

On the other hand if Mazda handed out 2 fobs, then they owe me that missing fob.

New or used? A new one should have two fobs. Used is whatever the car comes with.

 

From new they are supplied with two key fobs. For second hand vehicles, unless the sales contract you signed says two remotes, you are out of luck.

 

I agree, if new, two fobs come with the car. If the dealer is saying that this isn't true, they're lying to you.

As stated above, if used, you get what you get.

 

When we bought our 2014 in 2016, it only had one fob. We told the dealer that we expected two. He said that they didn't have two, but we could buy another. We thanked him and got up and started toward the door. He said that he didn't realize that it was a deal breaker and he would get another fob for us.

I traded in a vehicle and they asked me for both fobs.

Apparently it doesn't go the other way.

I'll contact Mazda and see what they can do. The dealer was clearly trying to get another $700 out of me.

 

You should ask for your 2nd traded key back.

 

$700 for a new fob? I'm assuming that includes programming? Be sure to get a kiss after that screwing.

 

TWO key fobs.

 

I know this post was a few weeks old but I just purchased a 2017 CX-5 over the weekend. I asked the salesman if it was a Certified Pre-Owned and he said yes because it had two key fobs. He said that if it only had one that they couldn't certify it. I bought mine at Oxnard Mazda. I guess it matters if it was offered as a certified pre-owned or not.
