Hi

New (used 2019) CX-5 owner. Generally happy with the car, but I have a seemingly simple question that I cannot figure out. I want to be able to turn off *just* the radio when it's on. I *don't* want to use the mute function, because i want to keep hearing navigation. I was driving with my daughter who is learning to drive, she had turned the radio on and needed navigation, but the radio was distracting her, and we wanted to turn it off.

I have not been able to find anything anywhere, manual, web etc. Hopefully it is possible to do so - seems like a real safety issue.

Are you using Carplay/Android Auto, or the Mazda navigation & radio?

 

Mostly CarPlay

 

And we use Google maps for the navigation

 

Turning down the radio should not affect the navigation volume, at least it doesn’t on my ‘21. Not sure about turning the radio off, but you can turn it down to zero.

 

I did mute, rather than turn it down, but that definitely turned off not just the radio but the GPS. I'll try turning the volume down, hopefully that works. I'll report back.

 

You can adjust the navigation audio only when the voice is playing, and the rest of the time the volume adjusts the media that is playing.
