I recently rented a Jeep Compass and one thing I found really useful was clips to hold plastic grocery bags. They were at the back of the cargo area on the left and right sides. I am wondering if there is anything aftermarket I could install to get something similar. I already have a big organizer but it isn't the same and grocery bags fall over in it. I have a 2015 CX-5.

I've seen some that hook on the headrest of the backseat. That is kind of farther than I'd want them, but if that is the only option I might give it a try.

 

You might try e-bay, ask about 'grocery bag clips' or just grocery bags.

Mazda sells their cargo net. I'm considering that.

And then there's a larger "tool" bag. I've got a soft-sided, hard-bottom Ridgid "Gen x5" bag, for keeping together cycling parts and related tools in one place (which is plenty big for me, given only a bike or two). But I'm considering picking up a second one for the back of the CX-5. In the 22" long model, it's about right for two of the thin plastic bags of groceries. Not quite large enough for two paper bags of groceries. Using bungee cords on the anchors the CX-5 provides, it ought to be sufficient to hold a small amount of purchased items in place. (Milwaukee [tools] has similar bags, along with other makers.) In the case of the Ridgid bag, it's got raised ribs along the underside that help grip onto the carpeted rear area; though I imagine they'd slip and slide if you've got the plastic type cargo tray back there.

There are inexpensive trunk organizers around ... like this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32383760108.html . That should be large enough for a couple of grocery bags, with a wider and flatter bottom for greater stability.

 

Hooks would require drilling into the side plastic trim. I am only willing to do that.

In looking at my car yesterday I realized those over the headrest holders won't work for me because I have the retractable cover and it blocks access.

The organizer I have is okay for a couple bags. It is usually filled with re-usable bags, jumper cables, ice scraper, etc. though. This is the one I have:

 

Yeah, it's too bad that Mazda didn't see fit to integrate some of those clips into their cars. My VW Jetta Sportwagen had em and they were very convenient!

Beck in 2016 when I was shopping for the CX-5 I stopped and took a look at the inventory at one of the local Mazda dealers. The salesman came out to 'assist' me. He was showing me the features of the CX-5 and told me about the grocery bag clips in the back cargo area. I looked at him and told him that those things that he was pointing to were definitely NOT for grocery bags. He said that yes, indeed they are grocery bags clips and if they're not, what are they? I reached over and pulled on one of the 'grocery bags clips' while watching the look on his face when the seat back of the back seat folded over. I then showed him what the other two 'clips' did.

 

I just use some carabiners and hooked them up to the rear seat lowering levers. I hook my grocery bags to these.

 

That is a great idea - unless the weight of the bags pulls the lever and drops the rear seats

 

It happened once. I noticed the rear seats had flipped forward slightly one day when I opened the rear door - something I don't do often.
