Default Need 19" "Grand Touring" wheels

Hi,

The lease on my 2018 CX5 Touring with Premium package is about up and I'm looking to trade in on a new 2021 of with the same package. Only problem is it looks like you can only get 17" wheels on the new Touring which to me makes it look like an "economy car", and I don't want to have to upgrade to the Grand Touring just to get the 19" wheels. My question is: I was wondering if anyone is trying to trade their Touring or Grand Touring 19" wheels / tires combination for my 17's? I'm seeing a lot of dialogue here which looks like most people are preferring this wheel/tire combination due to the harsher ride of the 19's and I will gladly trade for my17s I will soon have if yours are "like new"!

Ive seen one instance of that on CL but also 18" and 19" wheels with or without tires come up pretty frequently on CL and car forums. I bought my 18" cx 30 wheels from ebay and mounted the tires i wanted so its doable.

Default Changing 19 to 17 tire will give wrong speed reading

A CX-5 is a CX-5. There are no suspension, gearing or drivetrain differences from model to model, so you can swap 17s for 19s and vice-versa as much as you wish. The concensus seems to be that the 19s give a slightly harsher ride, but also slightly quicker turn-in for slightly improved handling. Choose your poison.
One other thing to keep in mind when test driving different CX-5s is that dealers are famous for neglecting to adjust tire pressures down to the specified level during prep. The factory sets them at 50 psi for the trip across the pond to keep them from flat-spotting. They should be set at 34# for the 17" wheel and 36# for the 19". My point here is you may very well be test driving cars that have over inflated tires, which will not give you a good representation of the car's actual ride quality.
Changing tire diameter size affects the speed reading, unless you tell the computer what the new tire diameter is. This is something the dealer software might be able to do. You might think your doing 100lm per hour, when the actual speed is different. The circumference measurement is different on 17 vs 19. However, i might buy 17 inch snow tires because lower and cheaper than 19 summer tires. Who care if speedo of by a bit.

I have one quibble here. V rated tires will have a stiffer sidewall so you should get a bit more responsive handling vs an H rated tire. This of course comes with a bit stiffer ride which the OP is trying to get away from.

If you are using factory 19 inch wheels the OE tire size is 225/55R19 (99V)

If you switch to factory 17 inch wheels then the OE tire size is 225/65R17 (100H)

These two tires have essentially the same outside diameter and circumference... so switching between these (like I do for my summer tire and winter tire setup) does not affect the speedometer or odometer.

I believe the offset changed from 50 to 45 in 2017. Has anyone switched to the pre-2017 wheels on a newer (2017+) cx-5 without rubbing issues? Of course, I'd swap all 4 wheels.

Default 2021.5 CX 5 tires options

I have just switched stock 2021.5 cx 5 tires to winter tires, as below...
Signature turbo 2021.5 model year, Mazda tires 225/55/R19 original on car.
Currently summer tires.
Bore = 67.1 ie centre hole
Bolt pattern = 5 x 114.3
================
Installed Snow tires rims Blizzak w40
They Are off 2017 CX5 mazda.
Steel Rim size 18 x 6.5 on these tires.
Tire size = 225/60/18
************************
Lug nuts, Thread size = M12x 1.5
Need 5 nuts per tire.
i hope this helps.
As the winter tires don't have air pressure sensors, the light stays on on dash to indicate low tire pressure. Mazda tire pressure indicator is useless anyway as it does not give PSI reading, only a light.

Hello,
just wondering if I can install P225/65/R17 and rim 17 X 7J offset 45. Won’t there be any problem with bigger front brakes and dual piston calipers in signature turbo 2021.5 model

I do not know about the 2021.5 Signature... but no problem with the winter tires mounted on 17 inch Mazda CX-5 wheels on my 2019 Signature....
