Default CX-5 HID bulb adjustment

I recently changed the HID bulbs in our 2013 CX-5. Our version has the HID bulbs, so the same bulb is used for both the low beam and high beam lights at night. A separate bulb is used for the daytime running lights (at least that's my understanding). The bulbs are a D4S HID bulb. Besides being a huge PITA to access and change the bulbs, I had to readjust the angle of the bulb after they were changed. I removed the fuse for the bulbs prior to changing them, which may have been a mistake? There are warnings all over the place that say high voltage for the HID bulbs. The manual actually says to disconnect the battery, but I wasn't going to do that to change a bulb. So I removed the fuse, changed the bulbs, put the fuse back in, turned on the car, and the lights were essentially pointing all the way down toward the ground as far as they could be. Once I got them adjusted to the right height, the hi-beam function does basically nothing. You can barely see any change between the low and hi beam, to the point that it really makes no difference at all. My understanding is that there is some type of reflector in the light mechanism that moves when you switch between low and hi beam. Since there is just one bulb used for both settings, it's not the bulb itself that changes. Has anyone had similar issues with these bulbs? When I removed the fuse, did the mechanism do some type of reset? I don't know of any way to be able to adjust the internal mechanism that is controlling the low/hi beam function.

The headlight system is auto adjust.
The first thing you are supposed to do is disconnect the negative battery cable.
You may have caused some sort of short or system malfunction by not following the proper instructions.
You might be able to do a reset by disconnecting the negative cable now and waiting a few minutes to reconnect.

Good luck

Thank you for the information. Any idea what other systems will be reset when the negative battery cable will be disconnected for a few minutes?

It will reset multiple items but there shouldn't be any issues.
Though I cannot say that definitively especially for a 10 year old vehicle.
