Hello, I just bought 2012 cx5 with 160 000 km on the clock, I think that ATF has never been done before. Do you recommend me to do it now, can it hurt transmission in any way or it can only be better? Should I do only drain and refill, not flushing? Should I change filter as well?

For the 2012 automatic there is no change just a recommended check every 20,000km (add if needed).
For the Skyactive auto transmissions the fluid according to the manual is supposed to be "lifelong" you just add if needed.
That said, and this is my "opinion", for all my cars that had automatic transmissions, whenever I did change the ATF fluid, I also did a full flush and filter replacement.
I only noticed improvement in one my many previous vehicles (a Jeep Commando) but the AT fluid obviously really filthy.
For my many other vehicles I really can't say I ever noticed a difference or if it was ever really needed or prolonged the life of any transmission.

 

At that miles and the unknown service history at least a filter and pan fluid service are prudent.
This will at least give a slight clue what is going on and then you can decide on a Full Service Fluid Replacement from a Service shop. I do not recommend DIY or a transmission with that high a mile to do the service without first getting the oil analyzed (even a service shop). If there is a lot of clutch material indicated in the oil analysis, then it would not be a good idea for anything except a basic filter and pan fluid change.

The basic lifetime or none service transmission came to the industry assuming the consumer would replace their vehicle every aprox. 5 year on average with a brand new vehicle @12miles per year . This way they could advertise such things as "Don't worry be happy" your transmission needs no service... "one less" to worry about. LOL

 

Hello everyone,could somebody help me too to make a right decision in this situation?Own Mazda CX-5 2019 51600 miles and never done before any ATF flushing or refilling on it before.Should i do that and if yes should it be full flushing or just refilling with filter replacement?
P.s.Don't have any problems with transmission right now.

P.S. most never get symptom's or do but disregard them because they don't think it a problem and often have stated to me after the transmission has problems "Didn't have any problems with transmission right now."

I can tell you a proper "transmission flush" requires high pressure equipment that most DIY folks do not have.

Thx for the information,but unfortunately in my region we don't have such a service like laboratory analysis of transmission fluid.
Sure, that's clear for me,anyway if i will do that i will do that in professional service which have all needed equipment for it,that's for sure.

You send the sample to the lab and the results are sent to your email

 

Not a good idea if you are living faaaaaaaar away from a lab
