Had to have the rear quarter repainted on my 2021 Signature due to some hail damage that dent less repair couldn't fix.
The repair looks very off in the right sunlight, but OK in others.
The car is Machine Gray, so it is supposedly tough to fix.
The body shop offered to try again, but I'm afraid it will still not work out.

 

Why not give shop a shot more ??

 

Give them another try and propose some type of deal with them for complete paint job if it doesn't work out.

 

Also refer them to the PPG instructions on how to apply, although I am sure they know it. Machine Gray is not that new a color.

I agree with you. It might be a conversation starter...how you read about how difficult it was with the black base coat, the directional flake coat, etc. They might talk to you more about their strategy. For us, we had a major repaint because the shop would only paint/blend multiple panels, saying just painting one panel would be a non-starter for them. Fortunately, the person that hit/sideswiped admitted fault, and her company paid for it all.
