From what i've read, the rear Mazda M tailgate emblem is pinned besides double sided tape. Anyone ever remove it / replace it? Just trying to gauge how easy/hard it is with a hairdryer / heat gun?
It has pins in it.
You will need to remove the inside cover liftgate cover to remove it without potential damage to the exterior.
If you're just looking for another color, there are various options.
Chrome black-out spray, Plasti-Dip, hand paint with a fine brush.
Ther are also an assortment of "stick-on" covers you purchase on eBay.
From what i've read the pin on the back of the emblem serves as a "guide" to line it up so its straight on the car. Your saying It won't just come off with heat applied to the emblem to release the glue? The pin is being held on from the inside?
The other "badges" on the back of the CX-5 have no pins and will come off with heat.
The Mazda badge might come off as well, but I can't say that for certain as I have not removed mine.
It's difficult to tell from the parts list diagrams if the pins are simply guides or push in lock tabs.
I guess you'll only know for certain by trying, unless someone else who has actually removed one chimes in.
I painted mine black (while on the vehicle) and have since put a "carbon fiber look" cover on it.
I use clear marine adhesive/sealant instead of the double-sided tape.
Thanks for the reply.
I've asked around and looked for vids but can't seem to find anyone who has removed ALL of them.
I ordered all three emblems through a Mazda Parts dealer. According to the guy on the phone, for my year (2022), all three have alignment pins. I didn't ask about if the inner side of the tailgate needs to come off. Emblems are in transit so I should have them next week. I Guess i'll find out.
I see a lot of threads about debadging and one thing I noticed is if you remove the rear Mazda emblem- it is going to be obvious as the line at the top of the panel stops where the emblem is so you will have a solid circle with no line. Pretty hard to disguise it.
Just wanted to update this thread to say that the pins are in fact just guides to line up the emblems. Only held on with double sided tape.
Yes this way was more expensive but way easier for me then spraying the emblems on the car, which I tried and didn't work. The only ones that do not have guide pins are the dash & 5 in CX-5.
Looks good, thanks for the update.
Here's mine, though you can't see the actually see the carbon fiber print.
I use clear marine sealant which I think works much better than double sided tape.
