Default 2021 CX-5 Turbo - Conventional or Synthetic?

Hi All,

I'm due for an oil change and one of my dealers has a $49.95 special for standard oil (I'm assuming conventional). I've seen so much confliction and can't seem to tell if the Mazda dealers use Conventional or synthetic on the turbo models. I'm waiting to hear back from the dealer, but does anyone know if the manual states anything other than using 5W-30?

This is what the manual states:
SKYACTIV-G 2.5T

Use SAE 5W-30 engine oil.

Mazda Genuine Oil is used in your Mazda vehicle. Mazda Genuine 5W-30 Oil is required to achieve optimum fuel economy.

For maintenance service, Mazda recommends Mazda Genuine Parts and Oil.

Oil with this trademark symbol conforms to the current engine and emission system protection standards and fuel economy requirements of the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC), comprised of U.S. and Japanese automobile manufacturers.

Yup I do recall seeing that, thank you. I wish the manual stated whether it requires Conventional, Synthetic, or either kind of oil.

There's no conflicting information. If you go read that dozens of responses, I put on this forum over the years.

.....
Well, once again this information. I literally beaten into members on this forum. Unless there is the exact wording required, then there is no requirement for the brand or type of oil needed to be used as long as it meets the manufacturers Basic oil requirement requirement information.

You can use any type of oil you want as long as it meets those specs.
I personal use synthetic and have for years, but that is my choice based on the sound quality testing and proven physical capabilities of the oil I choose.

I have posted this on other threads, but with mine the dealer has always used 5w30 full synthetic oil (some have argued the dealers don't actually offer 5w30 full synthetic oil, but I don't agree as my dealer certainly does). I bought the prepaid oil change package when I got my car so I am surprised they don't use conventional oil to cut their costs. That being said if you are getting the changes done every 5-7500 miles with correctly speced oil, I think you are fine either way.

Its a region and country thing, and not all dealership use or carry for service oil changes FULL SYNTHETIC oils. I believe at some dealership you can request it if they don't but that's another subject that I don't know or have experienced only told.

I ended up just going to the same dealer as usual since they have the best service specials in my area. It was $98.95 for the oil + tire rotation. In the paperwork it says they used Mazda 5W-30 Conventional oil (MZD5-W3-0DM). I hope this helps anyone with the same question lol.

The actual accurate response is what I posted.

Unless there are other members that have worked a few Mazda dealership as I have in the service department.

I wonder did you see them open 5 bottles of Mazda oil or from the 50 gallon barrel were able to read the distributor serial number to verify it to be OEM MAZDA fluid? Don't worry it is a trick question with a tricky dee answer. Only member that really know and understand motor oil and what is and is not formulated for and bottle for an auto manufacture.

Alexmed2002 Thank you for posting your actual service invoice. I cant tell you how helpful these are and seldom posted by members even when I ask for them. Its noticed and appreciated!!!
