Default 2021 CX-5 brakes

I bought a pre-owned 2021 AWD CX 5 CE with 18,000 miles (my first Mazda) on it 6 months ago. Now at 23,500 miles, last week I took it into the dealer for an oil change and tire rotation since they had a special on it. They did their video inspection to very briefly show that I had 2 mm on the front brakes and 3 mm on the back (the video was basically a blur, it was laughable). I'd like to know if it is common for a Mazda CX 5 brakes to wear so quickly or if they're just ripping me off They want to charge a total of $1000 for brake pad change, rotor resurfacing and brake bleed. I'm not sure of how the previous owner drove it but probably not that much if they drove 5,000 miles per year. My 2020 Subaru with 35,000 miles is having its first brake job on the rear brakes with the front brakes in good condition so I'm surprised that the Mazda would need it so soon with just 23,500 miles.
Thanks for any insights.

If I remember I did all my brakes around 27k. So, yeah 23k is about right. If you're capable brake jobs are easy on these cars just remember to put the rear brakes into "Service mode" retracting the rear electronic parking.

It's definitely not impossible to need brakes that early on these cars. The brakes do wear out very fast, especially if you drive a lot in town/city conditions. Between two CX-5s in the family, we had do have all 4 pads + rotors as well as the brake fluid done before 35k miles. And that's on a turbo model and naturally aspirated model from the 2021 model.

Interesting. I have a 21 turbo with 31k. At the 30k service I was told the rear brakes needed servicing (new pads and resurfaced rotors). The fronts had been changed due to pulsing/warping a few months before. I went to another indie shop for a transmission service and they told me the rear brakes were fine. I suggest you go to another place and ask for a second opinion. I would also recommend replacing the rotors with the pads if you do in fact need brakes. To me the stock rotors are not great and you can buy better parts (Bosch/Brembo) at a place like Rockauto.com for next to nothing (new pads and rotors) and then you have a brand new set of brakes. Also consider changing the brake fluid at 4yrs if it hasn't been done.

Brake wear is for the highest degree how long they last is by how a person brakes. I know everybody states they brake easy or well, but ....
Experience and shop records always seems to indicate some customers returning earlier on same platforms more often than other for brake service.

You cannot effectively compare the life of brakes between different auto manufactured vehicles, there are way too many variables that would first need to be compared and considered.

Ever drive down "new dealer row" in your local city and wonder how they can afford those palatial dealerships that look like Sadam's summer home? 1000$ brake jobs surely help them make their payments.

Brake replacement is based on the vehicle the parts used but mostly of the braking skills or lack-thereof of the person driving.
Until I gave my wife lessons on proper breaking technique, she was doing brake replacement twice as much as I was driving the same mileage.
While she did have different vehicles than mine, she is now in the same replacement "ballpark" mileage as me.
She readily accepted the "lessons" but not until after she saw how much money it saved.
Even enough to use better quality parts and get even more mileage and value.

LOL while some responses are funny, I need to suggest that dealership generally carry a better warranty for service provided. And that most of the service done is with OEM parts and those pricing are based on the area's MSRP. The labor hourly rate is close to but sure it is often slightly higher than an independent shop but then most all independent shops have the great overhead that dealership has. Also the BS about all these SEE WHAT THE DEAR paid for a vehicle is just that BS. The one thing they never take in account for is how long that new vehicle has been sitting on a sales lot before it is sold? Anyway that is another topic altogether.

The other thing is that there are some independent service shops that are just as expensive to get service work done and are on forums always suggested not to go to them yet this one i going to mention is the largest and most used in the US? Gop figure if they are that bad then why are they the number one choice for consumers to use.
FRIESTONE

And how some of their shops looks like , how did a member describe service and dealerships " Sadam's summer home".

Paying someone $1000 on simple brake job is crazy to me. I mean with 1k you can buy power tools,wrench,sockets..etc and not to mention Autozone has a lifetime warranty on Brake pads so it's basically FREE. Youtube offers plenty of DIY tutorial on brake job or on anything. Like I said if you're capable why not give it a try.

First the OP did NOT post the estimate so you and other have NO idea what the cost included?
Without seeing the actual estimate, we (u) have no idea if that included other items or damaged parts observed that could make the service a little more difficult?

I wish I could post how many DIY do brake job fail even with your suggestion and have their vehcle towed into the shop for us to start most of the time by removing all the new brake parts.

Here is more of your less then the great advise on this forum:

Totally disregarding the complete line of coil choices that Autozone stocks!

That was on a ECU connector that is seal weather tight and has factory dielectric grease on the sealing boot.

and my favorite that made me smile..... "DEEP SCAN".. lol
Makes it sound like a colonoscopy for an engine Control Unit (ECU) rolmao

Can you get a deep scan for DTC?
