2019 CX-GTR AWD and Roof Rails
Hello! I am (again) considering trading in my 2019 Sonic Silver Metallic CX-5 GT AWD (non-turbo) with a 2019 Sonic Silver Metallic CX-5 GTR AWD (turbo). The only one available at my favorite dealer comes with the roof rails which is extra $300+ that they will charge me. I don't care for a roof rail as I don't intend to carry cargo on the top of the roof! Plus if I do carry cargo, I have to buy the crossbars!
My question to those who have roof rails on their CX-5 is: does the roof rails add to the wind noise on high speed highway cruising?
Thanks in advance.

We had roof rails in our VW Tiguan and did not notice any wind noise. Don't expect any for the CX-5 or maybe just a little bit.
Just out of curiosity, are you again considering the turbo because of performance issues or any other reason?

I used to own a Subaru Crosstrek before my CX-5’s (they all come with roof rails) and the rails cause wind noise at high speed on highway cruising. I hate wind noise. In Summer, I always drive with my AC on - I don’t open my windows. If the CX-5 GTR has an option to delete the moonroof, I would delete it, but no, all CX-5 upper trim levels have moonroof.
Well, the rails on the 2019’s are flushed on the valley on the roof sides. No more cleaning necessary.
Sorry, meant to say crossbars instead of rails. I have noticed no wind noise.
Electric? I will never consider EV’s at the current cost and limited range. Currently, your “gas stop” will be for several hours to charge up. It will take me a week to my destination instead of currently 32 hours!
I just traded in my 2019 CX-5 GT for a 2019 CX-5 GT Reserve (GTR).
