Default 2016 - Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir Replacement

Good afternoon all,

I think the Washer Reservoir of my 2016 CX5 needs to be replaced (has a hole in it)

Over at https://www.mazdaswag.com/ I read that a new reservoir costs about 60 bucks. That price actually seems a bit low.

At https://repairpal.com/ I read that Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir Replacement between $216 and $252 (60/40 percent labor/parts)

Zip I used is 60504

What do you all think ? Are those numbers realistic ?

D

The first price of 60 is about average and accurate the labor is based on your exact locality and what the current basic hour labor rate is. If those are combine labor and parts, then based on national average shop hourly rate they would be normal there abouts?? It takes an -hour to change it out. It is also a very easy task with simple common tools

My state currently averages about $140 an hour for automotive labor.
As Calisto states that figure would be in the "ballpark" for the labor and parts.
As he said you can do it yourself and most towns/cities always have an independent "wrench" who would charge less in labor.
This repair does not really require a "certified mechanic".
We have a local Tech school that will do it things like this for free (if you supply the part) to train their students.
But they have a long wait list.

Check craigs list your area for a Mobil mechanic.... if you don't want to do it and don't want to pay a shop cost.

Sorry, but you must have misunderstood. I am not looking for a mechanic.

1st step it to actually confirm the reservoir itself is leaking and not the pump, or grommet or pipes.

Get a good replacement or go to pick and pull and learn how to install it by removing it from a donor car - this is a great learning method for new DIYers - and it saves $$$ - this is not a hard fix - go for it

wow! this is funny reading.... got to say done it myself in the early 1980's.

The problem is unlike before many DIY may not do well because of the new use of terms LOLFor safety and environmental reasons:
  • No torches
  • No body saws
  • No jacks
  • No batteries
  • No battery jump packs
  • No cores with oil
  • No glass containers or other glass objects
  • No alcohol
  • No smoking
  • No children under 16 years of age in the yard
  • Children in the waiting area must be under customer-provided adult supervision at all times
