Post 2016 CX-5 Grand Touring Rear Deck Release

Hi All!

I recently purchased a 2016 CX-5. I had an alarm installed yesterday. One of the features is the option to "pop" / unlock the rear lift deck with the remote. (Note: I know that this will not be a full auto-lift feature). I just want the ability to release / unlock the lid remotely if I was walking out of a grocery store or if I was in the house and needed to let someone have access to the cargo area without giving them the key FOB.

What we found after installation is that when pressing the new alarm FOB button, the rear deck lock will release but the the deck lid will not move far enough forward and will still catch on the locking mechanism (meaning I still have to depress the button on the deck lid to fully unlock). However, if you use the remote to unlock and also use your fingertips to gently give it an extra "nudge", it will come completely free.

The installer said that I most likely would need to replace the two new lift struts to give it that extra force to completely clear the locking mechanism. I'm skeptical if that would really work, since its a 2016 model and the struts have no issue supporting the deck lid when fully opened.

My question is, has anyone tried this? Can I buy (or do they make) heavier duty lift struts that will have more opening force when released?

That sounds about right to me.
When my 2020 locks in it takes an additional bit of power and you can actually see the movement in it.
Your 2016 struts could be getting worn or the latch itself might be slightly worn and off center though not likely.
