Default 2" Hitch on a 2021 CX-5 GTR ?

I have 15 ft Boston Whaler Montauck 150 and a single axel trailer. Not so big. Is it possible to get a 2 " (Class 3 ?) hitch installed to pull this short distances?

When I bought my '16 CX-5, I had a class III receiver added to hold a bike rack as well as pull a small trailer. A class II would have been plenty but I have several hitches to go into a class III (2 inch square tube). I had a local trailer dealer install it along with the wiring conversion to hook up to a 4 flat trailer plug. The car doesn't like towing my 5X10 trailer but I used a motorcycle trailer to haul some cargo and it worked fine.

perfect and thanks. I need an alternative to evacuate my boat for approaching hurricanes when I don't have my truck. It is only a five mile distance so I don't think it is a problem but wanted opinions. Thanks for your help.

Several 2" hitches are available, including Draw-Tite, Curt, Stealth, and EcoHitch. You may want to take a look at e-trailer.com. The Draw-Tite and Curt have mostly positive reviews. I assume any of these would work.

I do most of my own work but I paid to have my hitch receiver installed along with the wiring conversion. I'm glad I did. Now, your's is 5 years newer than mine but they don't seem to have changed much over the years. They had to drop my exhaust in the back and take the interior apart to add the wiring. They did a great job and except for seeing the new parts, it's the same as before.

As long as your boat and trailer is at or under the tow rating, it will work fine. My 5 X 10 trailer is an old one and it likes to bounce when unloaded and the short wheel base on the CX-5 isn't suited for that.

I don't remember the brand I had installed, but I went top of the line. The installer said it would slope down a bit to drain mud and water out rather than let them build up.

It's worked out fine and stayed clean even on some of the roads I drive on. The only issue is once when we were camping, I added an aluminum hitch carrier. The downward slant caused it to drag on driveways.

I have the Draw-Tite - 2" hitch. Installed myself and was done in under 20 minutes. No worries and it is pretty solid.

Did you have the wiring connector installed? It needs to have a conversion from 5 to 4 lights. Our cars have amber turn signals in back instead of the dual element brake lights.

I am about to install the Drawtite Class III 2" hitch. I will admit to being a laimo compared to FluCod. I gave it one shot with my Wife holding up one end and me on the other while I tried to secured the nuts on the bolts. I would guess FluCod did it with one person. To be short, my Wife could not hold her end steady. I got frustrated and dropped the Car to come back an other time with someone stronger.

I got all the bolts fished in without problem. It was holding the Hitch flat up against the underside and putting the washers and nuts on that was a problem as the hitch was not being held steady. For the next time (any day) I have two 2X4 lengths ready that I will cut to length to hopefully hold the hitch in place while I put the washers and nuts on and tighten them up.

FluCod maybe laughing wildly at my lameness. But curious if what I am describing is at all recognizable to him. Or, if he had a better solution for holding the hitch in place. Everything went smooth as hell until that last step. Best, Reuben
