The above seven CX-5's have been driven and, or shared by my wife, son, and myself. At any given time we have had two CX-5's within my family. We average about 15K miles per year and trade-in after 2-3 years. Currently my wife and I share the 2024 Select and our 23 year old son has a 2025 PP. My wife and I also share a 2019 Miata. Mazda makes greats cars!
I own a 2006 MX-5, a 2014 CX-5, and we added a 2024 CX-90 PHEV GT to the lineup earlier this year. That’s also the order in which I rank them in terms of preference for driving. The cx5 and mx5 are manual which is nice.
Great line up of Mazda's!
I've driven a manual 2018 Miata and the shifting was difficult for me. It seemed as though the stick needed to be in precisely the correct position or it felt like a jerky-hard-laborious shift between gears. Very different from previous manual transmission cars I had driven from Toyota and BMW, which were relatively easy and comfortable to shift.
How do you compare the shifting of your 2006 MX-5 to other brand manual transmission car ?
I don't believe manual transmission CX-5's are sold within the USA and I've never driven one. Does the stick and shifting feel similar comparing your CX-5 to MX-5?
I have a 2015 CX5 with manual that I've had since new. I am pretty sure that CX5 is no longer sold with manual in US. I wonder what was the last year for manual CX5?
Wondering if the MX5 you drove might have been high mileage and/or had a problem with shifter/linkage/gearbox or maybe incomplete clutch release? I find my CX5 easy to shift. I especially like the short throw gear shift. If I grab shift **** with fingertips, I can just move my wrist to shift gears, leaving my arm comfortably anchored on the rest!
I own a 2006 MX-5 and it shifts very smoothly. They have a reputation for shifting very well, as a sports car should. Alas, it's covered up in storage until the spring.

I don't think there has ever been any complaints with the MX-5's manual. The question was about the CX-5 as one poster said his experience was that it was less than smooth.

The above was clearly about the shifting of MX-5s, with a specific question about a 2006 MX-5.

well ok seems you want to be so specific...
Simple Aside from a total personal prospective that is not technically supported you really cant compare other platforms because the specifications are vastly different.
I completely misread that one. Must have not had my glasseson....
Dude I post on so many forums daily I need to speed read. I have been caught many times responding to a generality rather than a specific (model, year, event etc.) even on this forum a few times.
But maybe the same, didn't have my glasses on.
