Default ticking noise

my 1989 b2600i 4 x 4 has a ticking noise. it gets really loud, then quiet and then back again. Changed the oil 2x I tried marvel mystery oil and lucas oil with no results. there is no performance loss or anything just that loud irritating tick, tick, TICK!!
need advice on how to fix it.

I bought an '89 B2200 about a year ago and decided to go with mobil 1 synthetic. After the oil change it made the same intermitent tickng noise. I then switched back to 10/30 and it stll ticked. I ended up going with cheap crap 20/50 and it stopped the ticking.
2.2 Litre with 240,000 Km.

Try adjusting your valves.
They have hydraulic lash adjustors, no manual adjustments can be made. I believe the earlier Mitsu engines had mechanical adjustors that you could set lash.

I highly recommend 10w-40 oil in all 86-93 mazda pickups, they just don't tend to like anything thinner than that.
