Mazda BT 50 & Pickup Trucks While Mazda may not be known for their trucks, they have always produced quality reliable trucks for both hauling cargo, or simply crusing. BT 50

Default New Guy w/ b200 2nd owner

Hi All I recently got a 87 b2000 se5 from the original owner with 67k on the clock. I don't have any big plans for it. I really need a beater to get stuff from Lowe's and take my dog to the river.

I was driving it home because it seemed to run and idle fine but, after about 3.5 miles it started to run ruff and died. I had it towed home and haven't had a chance to mess with it yet.

The truck has been sitting for 14 years. It recently got new gas an oil change new plugs and wire and an air filter. Is there any starting point you all would suggest.

I am not a novice mechanic so I am not afraid to dig in but I have been a Mercedes guy for the last 10 years or so and have not had much experience with carbureted engines.

Thanks

Hi to all of you too. Is there some kind of test I have to pass before people will respond to me?

Click on the link in my Signature.. the guys at MazdaTrucking will know..

It really could be any number of reasons, check the fuel filter, make sure it isn't plugged, if it is, then I would pull the box off, and open the tank to see how fouled the pickup screen is inside the fuel tank.

It could also be a plugged Cat, pull the hoses off the front of the carb housing off (one at a time) and see if there are any changes.

Check your charging system, make sure the battery is fully charged.

It really could be just about anything..

Check the number of your vaccuum lines, vaccuum line hell! If you have a lot you need to do this:

Mazda Mikuni/Solex carburetor -- Weber conversion; DONE!! - The Garage Gazette

Sounds like pollution control issues, vacuum line issues.

There is a lot of unnecessary pollution/vacuum lines with stock so upgrade to a Weber and minimize all that crap.

The Mikuni / Solex Carburetor was used in the Mitsubishi Engine which was primarily in the 1986 to 1988 Mazda B2600 trucks, and a few of the mazda 626 cars.

The B2000 & B2200 trucks used a Nikki Electronic feedback carb, and yes they had a hell of a lot of vacuum lines, again Mazdatrucking.com has diagrams & expert knowledge from guys who do nothing but build Mazda trucks..
