Mitch you are doing (and have been doing!) some great things for fans of the 1986-1993 (In North America) Mazda trucks.....keep up the great work buddy!
Hey man. This is my email. I'm sure you're busy as hell and I'm not expecting a free tutorial or anything. I just have a couple questions to make sure I'm not misunderstanding some basic ****. candj2332@gmail.com
I would suggest you post your questions on Mitch's new forum, and post unrelated questions in separate threads. Be sure to state your year of truck, engine size, carburetor type or fuel injected, 5-speed or automatic, etc. https://mazdaminitruckin.com/forums/
When the #1 valve is open on the exhaust side that's what you time it to correct. I've pulled the spark plugs and checked both at the same time. Once it hits that stroke I the can do small adjustments to make sure it's at tdc and set the distributor to that. Right?
Looks good, from your photos. You need to determine whether your issue is fuel-related or spark-related:Spray some aerosol starting fluid into the air cleaner or carburetor body, try to start, do this a few times. If it runs for a few seconds then quits out, you have a fuel delivery issue, start there. If it won't run at all when you do this, then it's a spark issue, work on that. This is a common first test to help isolate the problem when the engine spins/cranks. And remember: just because the engine can crank fine, doesn't mean that the electrical part of the ignition switch (the "run" circuit) is OK (test for positive voltage at coil positive terminal with key in "run" position, try 20 times).
