My truck don't suck... Vacuum issue
1992 B2600I 2WD 5-SPD EXTRA CAB LE-5 WITH 361k ON THE ODO.
I've had this truck for seven years as of this past August. It had 182k when I bought it, so I've put twice as many miles on this rig "in seven years" than it got in the previous twenty-five... IT IS SOOOOOO FUN TO DRIVE! Still has the original paint and it's glossy. Kind of an intermittent problem. My mechanic "instantly" said sounds like a vacuum issue and proceeded to inspect a few hoses and each one shows cracks. He also pointed to the throttle body and said it's likely got plenty of gunk that needs cleaning out. Since I'm committed to keeping this old truck, I want to find the best source for the replacement parts I'll be needing to bring it back to it's glory. For you folks with vast knowledge on this truck/engine... where do you shop for parts? I read somewhere that the "ECM" can be hard to find anymore. Mine seems to be okay, but what happens when they go bad? And where do folks have them serviced nowadays? Any and all help is greatly appreciated! I love this old truck and hope to retire it from daily service now that I bought an '02 F-250 "for work". Thanks in advance!!! |

You need to first check the Clutch Switch! The Clutch Switch is a simple switch that works like a Brake Light Switch......except the Clutch Switch is depressed by the Clutch Pedal.....not the Brake Pedal. The inner return spring, and/or the plastic plunger can break and then not allow the switch to function properly! And it NEEDS to function properly! This simple little switch lets the ECU know when the clutch is depressed or not depressed, and depending on if your manual transmission is in a gear, or in neutral, the ECU will compensate the idle speed. It is very simple to remove and inspect, an take apart to see if you can fix it, or if you need to replace it. My thoughts lead me to feel a good cleaning with aerosol throttle body cleaner and maybe check to make sure its return spring is strong enough.
