Default leaky water pump ...help!

hi all, i just replaced the water pump in my sons 92 b2200 p/u 2.2. it leaks like crazy! i used rtv on both sides of the gasket. could this be my problem? the old gasket didnt have any rtv or other sealer at all. i just removed the pump (again) and cleaned off the rtv and old gasket. other than tightening to specs, should i use rtv or no? any help would be greatly appreciated.

It may not be the waterpump leaking. Check the freeze plug above it. I would leave the timing cover off and pressure test the cooling system to see where the leak is if it's not obvious.
