HELP 88 Mazda B2200 not getting fuel to the engine
Im having some issues with the fuel pump, its not pumping fuel to the carb! I thought it was a fuel relay, the only relay i could find (which doesnt look like a relay) was to the left of the steering column under the plastic kick panel, it is a mitsi black box and when i look inside it doesn't have the usual components of a relay but it has four connections. it has code e2t16175 written on it, I found a link with someone having similar issues. I replaced the pump last week in the fuel tank, so it has a electric pump. I was told it may have originally had a mechanical fuel pump.
Im not convinced this is the relay, has anyone else had these problems and were able to sort it out?
I also have a 1988 B2200 (mine since 1994); mine is 5-speed so has the mechanical fuel pump mounted on right side of the cylinder head. The 1988 B2200 with automatic transmissions for some reason were fitted with in-tank electric fuel pumps (and different radiators.fan clutches, engine fan, and fan shrouds).
1. Can you hear the fuel pump running if you get out and listen?
2. In your situation, since yours does have an electric fuel pump, I'd check if you're actually getting positive voltage at the fuel pump, and if not work backwards to find out where the positive voltage is interrupted. You didn't state how you accessed the top of the fuel tank to install the electric fuel pump (I would tilt the truck bed myself, see https://mazdaminitruckin.com/how-to-...-sending-unit/) or if you have rust in the fuel tank or fuel filter (electric in-tank fuel pumps use a fuel filter mounted on the chassis rail. Folks have had rust in their system which has blocked gas flow.
3. Automatics can be converted to use the mechanical fuel pump readily, see
1.) There is no sound coming from the fuel pump, I disconnected the line at the carb as well and no fuel was coming out.
2.) I dropped the fuel tank from the car, it wasn't an easy process so i would like to avoid dropping it again, thanks for the video it looks easier than dropping the tank. i Suspect its probably the fuel pump relay thats the issue
For the fuel pump relay, I bought a standard bosch 4 pin relay. I am unsure how to wire it in though, do you know how to wire it?
my wiring harness is only of a 4 pin connection type where I think that one in the diagram is shown as 5, do you know what wires I would bridge to test it?
I lifted the bed with the 2x4 method so much easier than dropping the tank, turns out the new fuel pump i installed last week was faulty.. I also fried my fuel pump sender accidentally and then I realized it's difficult to find a replacement. Does anyone know where I could get one from? It's for an extened cab. Do you think I'd be better off swapping to a manual pump set up? Thanks for the help.
I'm sorry, I didn't get back earlier, yes 4 wires. It sounds like you know that the pump is bad, but for completeness here is the wiring of the control module with the two wires you would jumper to test the pump (B and D terminals).
