Default Head gasket

Had a bad head gasket on a 1992 b2200 2.2 with carb. After pulling the head I noticed there were 2 gaskets, one was a plain metal one and the other was a regular Fel-Pro gasket. Was the metal one a shim of some kind or did the prior mechanic make a mistake? The head gasket was replaced about a year and a half ago, according to the previous owner, I would think they should last longer than that. The truck only has 69,000 original miles on it. Thanks for any input.

I believe just one head gasket. The mechanic added the Fel-Pro. Maybe he thought the head was warped and thought keeping the first head gasket in was a good idea...

69K miles is nothing on these engines...
