Default Front Catalytic Converter

The rear catalytic converter stopped up on my 1986 B2000. One month and $250 later, the front converter stopped up. My son works at AutoZone, so he can get a replacement at a discount. The one they have is a universal model that, according to their computer, fits front and rear. The repair shop says that it will NOT fit on the front. It appears to bolt on.

Has anyone had luck getting a front converter from AutoZone? Does the universal unit really fit?

look at autozones web site, look at the cat for a 1989 b2200 and see if the pic looks like yours. that universel one for the 86 b2000 i think is supposed to do the job of both front and rear. but the pic of the front cat for the 89 is the front cat you need. I think. hope this helps.

The part listed for the 1989 looks right, but AutoZone doesn't carry them online or in the store. What's up with that? See this link.

Thanks. The repair shop can provide one for about $300. The only one available on the page you provided is $500. I just don't get it!
