Default Electrical Issue

I have an '84 B2000 and every time I start it up, there is a small cable that runs between the battery and rotor cap that burns up...any ideas?

indeed, I had to do a bit of rewiring and such but I got it running, the issue turned out to be bad wiring, bad alternator, and bad battery...lets hope thats all it is
