Hi I just bought, but have not yet taken possession of a 87 B2600 4X4. I've wanted one of those since I got my B2000 in 86! Now it it were a B2000 I could tell, just by listening, how healthy a truck it is. But I can't do that with this thing. I don't even know how to tell if the 4 wheel drive is working. What makes me nervous is that it's inspection ran out, and the guy hasn't bothered to register it or get it inspected. The frame looks good, the exterior of the bed looks good, bed itself (inside is a pile of rust, but the liner will keep my things safe).

So, how do I test the 4 wheel drive part (now owners manual, I don't even know which way to turn the hubs!)?

Any other areas that I should check?

Since I hardly see these for sale, I paid a few hundred over book value, and I know I'm going to need to do a lot of things, I just don't want to have to dump a grand into it b/c the transmission is shot!
