Default BT-50 Cruise Control Install

Any issues with installing cruise control in a 2009 4WD Mazda BT-50 ute? What parts are required?

See Universal Electronic Cruise Control, LED Daytime Running Lights and Hands-free Bluetooth by Rostra

Is yours a Japanese made Mazda or like the USA Ford Rangers?

Aussie - made in Thailand. VIN MM0UNY0E400******, Eng: WEAT****** - Jan 2009, maybe Mazda BT-50 3.0 CDVi 4x4 (UN)

I note that reference is aftermarket cruise control. Are the vehicles setup for genuine cruise control or do they need to be reprogrammed? Also wondering if I can use a unit from a Ranger.

BTW - I can't find the wiring diagrams anywhere.

If yours has an accelerator cable, the Rostra universal CC should work. If no cable like more-modern vehicles, then it's all electronic. I'd contact Rostra, does not sound to me like Australian Mazda trucks are Rangers like they were in USA.

Phoned the Mazda spare parts dealer and he said it would cost thousands to fit and didn't want to talk about it.

Called in an saw the Ford spare parts dealer and he said the parts are the same, same parts numbers even, and they often swap parts and refer people to the other dealer if parts aren't available.

Seems PJ (06-08) or PK (09-11) Ford Ranger, drive by wire:
  • PK109750E Cruise Control Kit [Aftermarket]
  1. PK9F714AA Cable Assembly (to accelerator)
  2. PK9D735AA Speed Control Assembly [box]
  3. PK9D744AA Switches [Steering Wheel]
  4. PK9F924AA Sensor Switch [Brake/Clutch]
  5. PK10K910AA Cruise Lamp Indicator [led]

So I can see with some other vehicle make/models the car computer is already programmed for cruise control and you only need to add the sensor hardware. Since there is no factory option with this model an aftermarket box would be required.

I don't know why they are so expensive; board and firmware to read the speed off the HS CAN bus, adjust from steering wheel or brake/clutch switches with an indicator led when active.
