B2600i swap to MPV 3.0L
Hi Guys,
I've got a few questions and if anyone could give me a hand it would be appreciated. I've got a 1992 B2600i 4x4 with a 5-speed manual transmission and i plan on pulling the engine and possibly try to get a few extra horses out of it, maybe even a turbo. That will be down the road though right now i have a line on a 3.0L MPV donor vehicle of the same vintage. I know there are quite a few threads on engine swaps but i couldn't find any on the 3.0L swap, is there a reason for this? It just seems like there are a lot of mpvs out there and the engines are quite cheap. My questions are as follows. ( keep in mind though i will be running this engine for a while it's not just a temporary swap so i'd like to keep everything intact)
1. The transmissions appear to have the same bolt patterns on the bell housing according to the manuals i've read. but if someone could confirm this it would be great.
2. The MPV is an automatic so will my flywheel and clutch be a direct bolt on from the 2.6L engine?
3. Clearance issues. I am mainly concerned about the oil pan clearance over the front differential.( the mpv is not a 4x4 but it would only make sense to use the same oil pan for all mpv's)
If there's any other major issues i might run in to i'd appreciate a heads up.
Thanks

1) The MPV did come with an AWD setup at some point. I wonder if the pans are different and/or interchangeable?
2) That's alot of work just to gain an extra 0.4L, you'd be better off finding a Chevy 4.3 and swapping it. Alot more parts available and worth the work.
3) I'm going to bank on even if the tranny does bolt up, the flywheel probably won't.

i was going to do a swap on mine and found a few things that gave me a headache so to say. if your taking the motor out of an mpv i found that they have stuff setup more complicated than the truck did so you will need to pull the full harness out and if your using a five speed you will need a computer from a manual mpv seeing the comp in the auto mpv controls the trany's shift pattern. so the hard part is getting a computer to run it all properly.
